Commodore 64 LumaFix Video Filter Mod

Remove vertical lines & banding while improving video contrast on your C64 or C128. Easily fits under VIC-II.

  • Vertical Banding Filter: Designed to cancel out the classic vertical line noise on the screen caused by signals echoing inside the original VIC-II chips.
  • Adjustable Pots: Features precision trimmer potentiometers (variable resistors) to fine-tune the filter to match your specific VIC-II chip revision.
  • Ultra-Low Profile: Standard v1.2 low-clearance design fits natively under RF shield covers or heat-sink brackets.
  • Simple Setup: Sockets directly between your motherboard and your VIC-II video controller chip—completely solderless plug & play.

Solderless LumaFix Video Enhancement Filter Board

Is your Commodore 64 display full of distracting vertical lines, stripe banding, or color ghosts in the background? The C64 LumaFix v1.2 video Filter Board is a legendary and highly popular analogue enhancement designed to combat systemic noise. It restores clear, crisp edges and maximizes the overall video output contrast without needing permanent modifications.

The Science Behind Luma Banding

In all Commodore 64 models, the clock lines and multiplexed data lines run extremely close to the luminance output lines directly inside and around the VIC-II (6567/6569) video controller chip. This design creates unwanted parasitic coupling, visible as heavy background vertical checkerboard/stripe banding. The LumaFix addresses this anomaly by capturing the raw AEC (Address Enable Control) signal and inverting it slightly to neutralize and cancel the offending noise frequencies on the final composite or S-Video output.

Highly Tunable To Your Hardware Revisions

No two original MOS VIC-II chips behave exactly the same way. The LumaFix features user-adjustable multi-turn trimmer pots that allow you to tune the attenuation until the stripes are completely balanced out. It takes only a small screwdriver to balance the background grid patterns perfectly with your specific display or monitor setup.

Compatibility & Mod Support

  • Compatible with all Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 models utilizing a standard socketed VIC-II chip.
  • Compatible with both PAL (6569) and NTSC (6567) standard MOS chipset families.
  • Does not require soldering or permanent motherboard trace cutting—fully reversible if you ever want to revert back to stock.
  • Designed and carefully assembled in the USA using premium high-grade components for optimal high-frequency video filtration.
